Beautifully preserved, this grade II listed harbour, renowned for its ‘Poldark’ connection has become a popular destination; especially with its Georgian character.
with its traditional stone, fisherman’s cottages and idyllic harbour-side, it’s definitely makes a top destination for tourists, historians and even television fans.
Whether it’s the tall ships, or if you’re looking for a coffee or a cheeky rum cocktail Charlestown although appearing small, will accommodate just about everything.
It was built by ‘Charles Rashleigh’ , hence the now name. In the summer , you’re able to go on boat trips and spend time visiting the shipwreck museum, or even having an ice-cream by the historic harbour!
Charlestown being an example of a late Georgian working port, became a popular location for television filming locations, those including the famous Poldark and Dr Who. Attracting quite a different kettle of fish (excuse the pun)
All in all, Charlestown offers an excellent view of St. Austell bay, and allows tourists to walk over the famous lock gate; aswell as a senior yet stunning harbour.
